At 12:06 a.m. on June 14, our youngest daughter, Meredith, text me the following:
“Dad, I think I should be the first to tell you, Chuck Noll died.”
Meredith was born in 1997 – six years after Noll coached his final game. She never watched him coach. But she sees his face plastered on pictures in my basement and hears me tell many stories of The Emperor Chaz.
I wrote about one of those stories for The Clarion Call back on November 12, 1992, when I was a graduate student at Clarion University.
The following is the actual opinion piece (with just a few edits) I wrote for the student newspaper. It was entitled, “An Interview with The Emperor.”
My editor stressed one point over and over when I started as a sports reporter right out of college at The Beaver County Times.
“Always remember one thing, Nick,” he would say in a deep, gravelly voice. “Keep your professionalism regardless of the assignment.” Read the rest of this entry »

The calendar says August. How can that be?
Our fall semester starts soon. I can’t wait to see everyone back on our four BC3 campus locations. Generally, when the new academic year starts rolling around, sports enthusiasts in the area already have their sights set on another successful Steeler season. But this year… this year… the Battlin’ Buccos are in the pennant race! It is fun to watch the Pirates do so well.
I enjoy seeing all of the Pirate hats and jerseys donned by people of all ages. I even noticed many BC3 summer students wearing black and gold.
So gear up for another successful start to a new academic year… and the Pirates making a run for a sixth world championship!
See you soon.

Last time this year, the Steelers were already crowned Super Bowl XLIII Champions! Boy, does time fly. Although it will hardly be the same this Super Bowl Sunday, please offer your predictions for the game.
Mine is: Steelers 35, Staints 31. Oops – wishful thinking. How about this? Colts 35, Saints 31.
Make sure you do your homework ahead of the big game! Enjoy – even minus the Steelers!
